Drugs In The Sports World

The Shocking Truth Which Lies Behind the Most Celebrated Victories in Sports

Superb Report Covers Even the Most Secret Aspects About the Use of Drugs in Sports

In a jaw-dropping exposé, has uncovered shocking details about the use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) across the sports. The Olympic Games or elite sport have witnessed various alluring practices, substantially the sport of doping.

Over the years, the desire to use these substances, so called doping, has gradually transformed into a scourge which undermines the very pillars of sport. What was only reported in the news as hearsay has now been officially documented as fact – sport is in peril.

The Frightening Concern The figures are hard to believe.

The latest polls suggest that three quarters of the surveyed athletes have drugowe/jan workud drugto worketich performance enhancing drugs via athletic activity. Yup, almost 8 out of respondents who have initially witnessed some of these faking scandals or heard about the fake scandals are trusted sources.

The depature and abuse of these performance enhancing drugs had cut across all ranks from amateur sports up to professionals. However, the effects of this scourge are unbearable.

Experts suggest that at least half of all modern sport injuries can be attributed to illegal drug abuse, as synthetic hormones may inflict more than an athlete’s body can naturally heal.

Athletes who resort to the use of these drugs suffer from several side effects including but not limited to chronic liver disease which is irreversible, cardiovascular, as well as psychological health problems in the form of depression and anxiety.

However, there is more. About one quarter of all respondents in the survey, 25 percent in general, have reported that they at least considered the use of drugs to improve their performance.

This statistic translates to one in four athletes and perhaps the most amazing part is their willingness to risk their health, integrity, all their hard work in building a name and any achievement that comes to them in the future, just for the victory.

It is this unethical practice that has eroded the very principle that sacrifices have always been at the center of sports – hard work, skill and devotion.

The Consequences

The consequences of doping are inescapable and painful. Any athlete who finds himself in the doping snare will more often place a life ban on their careers and enjoy a “nice” life beating future opportunities.

The victims undergo humiliation, degradation and stain their image. Their proud achievements turn into distant history.

A shining case in point is Lance Armstrong, cycling’s brightest star and multiple winner of the greatest stage races in the world, devastated by the life-long doping scandal. He was a hero; now he is just another brand lost in the drugs feud.

The High-Profile Scandals

From Lance Armstrong to Russia’s state-sponsored doping program during the Olympics, there have been some incredible high-profile scandals in the sport world over the last decade.

The doping cases have showed us how athletes and coaches will do whatever it takes to win, and how far governments of certain countries are willing to take that too! The Russian scandal was on a whole different level.

Not only were they cheating but it involved athletes from just about every sport, with officials hiding test results if the athlete had failed.

Yes many Russian athletes were banned from competing after being exposed, but again can we trust them? Are these steps put into place enough?

Why Athletes Are Turning to Drugs

In order to get a grip of this issue, it is important to understand why athletes are being drawn into drugs. The urge to win has become so intense; it is because of this pressure that athletes sometimes are left with no other choice than taking extreme measures.

In some cases, athletes believe that doping is the only way to achieve success in a sport where they think everyone else is cheating as well. There are also coaches, agents or even entire teams who turn a blind eye to – and in some cases even facilitate – drug use in order to win at all costs.

In addition, many athletes (particularly younger ones) do not grasp the long-term physical effects of PEDs or appreciate how one scandal can ruin a career. Moreover, there’s no going back once an athlete starts doping.

Solution

So what can be done about this seemingly growing epidemic? More stringent drug testing is one way to try and combat it, but that likely won’t make a significant difference on its own.

The reality is that the tests we currently have available are not 100% accurate, and athletes who choose to cheat the system are getting smarter with how they do it. For example, some use masking agents or micro-dosing protocols so that the drug test never catches them.

For this reason, sports organizations are required to ensure sophisticated, more frequent tests, and new technologies to apprehend the culprits. Higher penalties are also needed.

Organizations should impose strict measures on athletes that engage in doping; they should receive lifetime bans and fines coupled with the withdrawal of their title. Education serves as another critical component of the solution.

Young athletes in particular require being educated about the risks associated with drugs and the moral obligation that comes with being a member of the sporting discipline.

Any school or club, and any professional associations have to develop programs that will state the importance of clean competition and possible consequences of using PEDs.
